What to Do If You Need an Emergency Dentist?

Implant Center of Miami • Oct 11, 2019

Firstly, if you think you are having a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or head to the nearest hospital. When your emergency is not life-threatening, here are some steps you can take.

Here are your first steps

If you have a regular dentist, call the office and wait until you receive instructions on how to reach their after-hours line. In some dental offices, if you just let the line ring, you will receive the after-hours hotline automatically. Once you have instructions on how to reach your regular dentist, he or she will instruct you on what to do based on the emergency that you're having.

Contact your dental provider if you have swelling or a fever

If you have swelling or fever, you should head straight to the hospital. If you are calling after hours, or need an emergency dentist after hours and don't have a regular dentist, you should look for a 24-hour dentist. These are hard to come by, but sometimes even a new dentist will come in to see a patient. These visits can be very costly, so it's best to prevent dental emergencies.
