The Zygomatic Implant Procedure

The zygomatic implant procedure is performed as an outpatient surgical procedure, and it takes about thirty minutes to complete. Step One: The patient will be put under using local anesthesia with intravenous sedation or general anesthesia.

Step Two: Your surgeon will make an incision in your gums.

Step Three: Using specialized, sterilized surgical instruments, your surgeon will drill holes in the zygomatic bone (just below the eye) and fit the titanium posts into the holes.

Step Four: Custom-made dental implants will be attached to each of the posts/screws; this affixes new teeth in the upper jaw within 24 hours in most cases.

Step Five: The incision will be carefully closed with stitches to ensure proper healing.

Step Six: The patient may rest for about an hour after the surgery, but many patients report minimal downtime with zygomatic implants! Following zygomatic implant surgery, the patient may experience minor discomfort that can be controlled with prescription medication(s). Most patients are able to return to work within a few days following the procedure. Avoid exercising or engaging in strenuous physical activity for about two weeks after your surgery so you can adequately heal.
