What Are Dental Implants?
Miami's Affordable Dental Implant Provider
A dental implant is a surgical element that connects with the bone of the jaw or skull in order to support a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an anchor in the jaw.
Think of an implant as an artificial tooth root. When you have a tooth extracted, the loss of that natural tooth root causes the remaining bone in your jaw to shrink. An implant, unlike a bridge (which is anchored to the surrounding teeth and not to the gum itself), is placed in your jaw where your tooth root was and will actually keep the surrounding bone healthy and strong. After the implant is placed and given time to heal, an abutment and crown are then placed on top of the implant, giving you a fully functional tooth.
Does Insurance Usually Cover the Cost of Dental Implants?
There isn't a hard and fast answer to this question. Dental insurance plans vary. Some plans do cover dental implants, while others cover only part of the cost of a dental implant. Unfortunately, some dental plans will cover nothing at all. However, you don't have to worry just yet! This is because even if you don't have insurance coverage for your dental implants, you still have options to get the care you need.
