All-on-4® Dental Implants in Miami, FL

Implant + Crown + Prosthesis

According to the American College of Prosthodontists, about 23 million adults in the United States are missing all of their teeth, a condition called edentulism. Another 12 million are edentulous in one arch. Of course, the majority of these people are elderly, and these numbers are expected to climb as baby boomers age. If you are among these millions, replacing missing teeth with All-on-4 implant retained dentures will enhance the quality of your life in many ways.

Do you have chipped, missing, or cracked teeth? Do you wear dentures? If you already wear dentures and can't stand another minute of that slip or click, or if you are contending with the challenges of having lost most of your teeth, the doctors at Implant Center of Miami offer a solution that is both immediate and permanent. All-on-4 dental implants firmly secure an existing or new denture for either the upper or lower arch of teeth. Conventional dental implants require a healing period of anywhere from three to six months. With All-on-4 dental implants, however, you’ll walk out of our dental practice with a complete smile after just one appointment.

The Benefits of All-on-4 Implants

When most patients think of dental implants, they picture teeth that appear and function very similar to natural teeth with a complete a smile. However, it is significant to understand that these are not the only benefits a patient can expect. A few other benefits patients can enjoy when opting for all-on-4 implants include:

Permanent. With All-on-4 implants, you replace all of your missing teeth with a permanent prosthodontic device that never has to be removed. Our doctors surgically implant small titanium posts at strategic points along your upper or lower jaw. These implants not only hold your dentures in place, but they also promote healthy new bone tissue growth. This means there is less risk of having the sunken facial features that often plague edentulous people. Your dentures will be outfitted with brackets that snap in to place along the posts.

Healthier Eating. Edentulous people often suffer from malnutrition because they can’t chew the foods that make up a well-balanced diet. This includes produce such as fresh fruits and vegetables, proteins like meat and beans, and complex carbohydrates such as hearty whole grain breads. All-on-4 restores a patient's functional bite so they can once again eat all the foods necessary to remain healthy.

Decrease in Gum Disease. People with missing teeth are more susceptible to periodontal disease (gum disease), a chronic bacterial infection that can not only be the result of missing teeth, but the cause, as well. Gum disease is a bacterial infection that has been linked to systemic ailments including diabetes, pneumonia, high blood pressure, and osteoporosis. With a permanent tooth replacement like All-on-4, gum disease is less likely to develop because you will need to regularly brush and floss as you would with natural teeth. This oral hygiene goes a long way in avoiding gum disease and maintaining oral health.

What To Expect with All-on-4 Implants

All-on-4 implants can be viewed as four dental implants in a single row. This essentially means that though these implants are all together, the process is very similar to that of dental implants. The main difference is the number of screws and the number of crowns that sit on each screw. Below explains more of the process, so you can understand what to expect prior to getting the procedure:

Local or General Anesthesia. To start the process, the patient will be put under anesthesia. This is to ensure that the patient will not experience any discomfort or pain during the procedure.

Removal of remaining teeth. While some patients will already have their teeth missing, those individuals that do have teeth remaining in the area will now have them removed to make room for the implants.

An incision is made. One of our experienced dentists will now make a small incision where the titanium alloy screws will go. Once this is complete, two screws will be inserted in the front of the mouth, and 2 screws (1 on each side) in the back. This is to ensure good stability.

The implants will be screwed in. The screws will then be put into their appropriate spot. Here, they will begin to fuse with the patient's jawbone over the span of a couple of months.

Insertion of the Crown. Once the healing process has come to an end, your dentist will put on permanent, porcelain crowns. This will cover up the titanium alloy rods and look similar to your natural teeth! When it comes to all-on-4 treatment, many crowns may be connected and all supported by a single titanium alloy rod.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How long do all-on-4 dental implants last?

The all on four dental implants are a newer procedure and have only been available for about 20 years. The implants can last for 20 - 25 years depending on your oral health.

With that being said, they have a very high success rate and can last a lifetime with proper care. Implant Center of Miami ensures you leave educated after your treatment to maximize the usage of your implants.

  • How many teeth are in All-on-4?

The all-on-4 dental implants procedure uses four implants to support a full arch of teeth. Generally the impalnts support 10 - 14 teeth.

This can be either a upper or lower set of teeth.

All-on-4 is a great option for patients who are missing all of their teeth, or who have failing teeth that need to be replaced.

  • What is an All-on-4 dental implant procedure?

The all on four dental implant procedure is a new way to replace all of your teeth with dental implants.

It is a minimally invasive procedure that can give you a brand new smile in just one day.

All on four dental implants are placed in the jawbone and then topped with a full set of dentures or a bridge to give you a more natural feeling smile compared to alternatives such as dentures.

  • Can I replace all of my teeth with dental implants?

Yes, you can have all of your teeth removed and replaced with implants.

However, this is a very invasive procedure and we usually only recommend it for patients who are missing some or all of their teeth. For single tooth replacements, we always recommend dental implants.

  • Are All-on-4 comfortable?

All-on-4 are designed to be comfortable for the patient. The dental implants are placed in strategic locations in the jaw and the replacement teeth are attached to them.

This gives the patient a more natural bite and feel to their teeth. All-on-4 also distribute the biting force evenly across all of the implants, which makes them stronger and more durable than traditional dentures.

  • How painful is the all-on-4 dental implant procedure?

The all-on-4 dental implant procedure is a surgery, so there will be some discomfort afterwards.

However, the pain is usually manageable with over-the-counter or prescription pain medication.

Most patients report that the pain and discomfort from the surgery decreases significantly after the first few days.

During the surgery however, patients report no pain at all thanks to modern medicine. If you have questions about medication and the surgery, please call us to get more accurate information.
